What is Reiki?

Reiki is the universal life force energy. When a reiki practitioner receives a series of initiations, or attunements, he or she is able to receive the reiki energy through his or her first chakra and pass it out through his or her hands. This traditional laying on of hands healing method is universal throughout history in many cultures, but the term Reiki is Japanese. Rei = universal. Ki = life force energy.

The knowledge that an unseen energy flows through all living things and is connected directly to the quality of health has been part of the wisdom of many cultures since ancient times. The existence of this "life force energy" has been verified by recent scientific experiments, and medical doctors are considering the role it plays in the functioning of the immune system and the healing process.
